What's new with you?

It's never just one thing & it's never all in one place. Notebooks, post-its, voice memos, shopping lists. There's always a project or ten on the go. I'm a bouncer. When one thing isn't working, I pick up another thread & go with that.

There are two big writing projects at the top of my to-do list. One, a radio play. Two, a speculative fiction novel. But sometimes I just can't get anywhere with them. To keep me on my toes I check out competitions, submission openings & workshop opportunities. So I'd like to share some with you & let you know what I'm up to...I'd love to know what you've got on the go too!

For conversationalists

-Script is my first love & my main medium. I wrote a radio play for my OU degree & took part in the Live Writers Group, developing a dystopian short play. Live Theatre have regular submission slots including their 10 Minutes To....series. And it's open right now. The theme is 'Light It Up' and writers need to submit an original 10 minute play with up to four characters & minimal staging. Interested? Deadline is Monday 17th at 10am. Get your piece in here.

For the short & sweet

-Writing Flash Fiction has been a revelation for me. A chance to explore character & structure in a tiny form. I recently won a prize for a piece I wrote and won't be stopping there. TSS have a Flash Fiction competition closing this week. If you have 400 words ready to go, this is a great place to submit them. There's a submission fee but waivers are in place if you're from a marginalised or disadvantaged or suffering economic hardship. Closes September 15th so be quick!

For the romantics

-And by romantic I mean novelists, lovers of long form prose. Writers Block North East is open for applications to their novel writing mentor scheme. I've heard great things about this, and with only £100 fee for a whole year of mentoring & publishing know-how, it sounds like a great bet for novels in development. I've a few more words to write yet but the deadline is October 14th so plenty of time....are you in?

Let me know what you're working on & if you have any success with these opportunities!
